To make this new series of sculptures Todd Robinson repeats what is a random selection of components to form two objects, each composed of identical parts combined in identical order. Produced by a serial type process, almost like knitting, the resulting twin sculptures reveal not the perfection of simulacra but something anomalous, something unquantifiable. Rather than trace the differences between the original and the duplicate Robinson presents what are in essence manifestations of a single entity, for there is no original, both is a variation of the other and within each an instance of the other exists.
Employing hand-made serial processes, Robinson seeks novel strategies that reveal the fugitive and ephemeral as traces of physical and mental labour.
